Jonathan Laurence is a multimedia artist, designer, consultant, and educator based in Maine. He has served as media director to the Camden International Film Festival (CIFF) for more than ten years and is currently the design director at the Points North Institute. He leads digital media and photography workshops at institutions and art centers around the world. From 2014 to 2017 he was the creative director at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA). He has received the Rising Star Award from the Palm Beach Photographic Center, and is listed as one of the top sixty most collectable artists in Maine. His latest series, Gltch, examines nature’s impact on his psyche and how faults, or kinks in the system can sometimes make images feel more true to life. “Glitch is a computer term, but the same thing can happen in nature” he says, “Sometimes things are destroyed, sometimes for the best, sometimes for the worst. I started embracing that idea, allowing things to disrupt what I’d been making … sometimes [coming] closer to how I really felt.”
